Lee Corso’s College GameDay headgear pick: Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State
By Tim Kaiser
Lee Corso made his College GameDay headgear selection this morning. Did he take No. 5 Oklahoma or the 11th-ranked Oklahoma State Sooners?
Lee Corso is on fire. He is on a five-game winning streak with his headgear picks. His record on the year is an impressive 7-2. Can he keep the streak alive with the near toss-up between Oklahoma (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) and Oklahoma State (7-1, 4-1)?
The streak looked like it was over for sure last week after Corso was half skeleton, half pumpkin Brutus Buckeye. Ohio State fell down quickly but rallied back from an 18-point deficit to win the game 39-38 on a late touchdown drive by J.T. Barrett.
Oklahoma State is not only the favorite at the sportsbooks but in Corso’s heart as well. From the first show of the season, Corso has been calling for Mason Rudolph to win the Heisman. College GameDay even ran a compilation of all the times he has declared Mason Rudolph his Heisman favorite. Any successful Heisman campaign needs a signature win in a nationally-televised rivalry game like Bedlam. This is especially true when the quarterback on the other sideline is one of your biggest challengers.
Corso has not had much luck picking the Cowboys. They are 1-2 when he has backed them in Stillwater and 1-4 overall at home with GameDay in town. The Sooners will be more than happy if Corso picks against them. They are 12-4 when he dons the other team’s headgear. Most recently the reverse jinx worked in Week 3 against the Buckeyes. Oklahoma has dominated the rivalry overall to the tune of 86-18-7. With GameDay in town they have been even better at a perfect 5-0 over their

Was there really any chance Corso was going the other way? He had to choose the Cowboys. Corso jumped on the Oklahoma State bandwagon on the College GameDay preseason show and hasn’t jumped off. He has repeatedly taken Mason Rudolph over Baker Mayfield in Heisman discussions. Plus, he gets to fire off two guns in Kirk Herbstreit’s ear and wear maybe the biggest mascot head in the country — no-brainer. (Although, he still shot the Sooners’ gun, so there are no rules apparently.)
Herbstreit got to make a pick because the game is on FS1. He took the Sooners.
