4. Jake Browning’s slump will continue

It’s been an interesting season for Jake Browning. The junior quarterback was once considered a top-tier quarterback prospect, but has taken a step back this season, in terms of overall yardage and touchdown passes. In fact, he’s behind the pace it took to reach his total from 2016.

Browning has passed for 1,907 yards with 16 touchdowns and only five interceptions, completing about 68 percent of his passes. His completion rate is a career-best, but he’s also been held in check far more this year than in his last two.

That will happen again on Saturday as the Cardinal will learn from their mistakes against Luke Falk a week ago and make Browning’s day feel like a nightmare. He’s going to be pressured early and often and it will lead to a couple of mistakes through the air.

Oregon held Browning in check last week, UCLA the game before that and Arizona State before that. The Cardinal have the talent in the secondary (despite being ranked 70th) to compete like those three did. Browning is in the midst of a three-week slump.
