1. Stanford plays both quarterbacks

David Shaw has figured one thing out: Bryce Love is his best player. That’s carried this team to this point, but eventually the Cardinal are going to have to find some help outside of Love to keep this offensive moving. Shaw has already played two quarterbacks but his level of trust with either of them has been sketchy at best.

Keller Chryst has completed 77-of-143 attempts for 937 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. His competition, K.J. Costello, has completed 69-of-114 passes for 833 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Their stat lines look similar, and neither of them has been any sort of effective.

A team like Stanford that has a chance to win the a division title should not be having quarterback flip-flopping this late in the season. Shaw needs to pick somebody and play him for the remainder of the year, if nothing else so he can put forth some level of normalcy going forward.

Yet if Shaw hasn’t settled on a quarterback at this point why should one have any confidence that he’s going to do what’s best and pick one of his two guys? Whether because of poor performance or a quick trigger, multiple Stanford quarterbacks are going to play for Stanford, again.
