The Miami Hurricanes were dealt a devastating blow to the College Football Playoff hopes in Week 13 with a huge upset loss to a seven loss team in the Pitt Panthers. Yet, that does not take away from what defensive coordinator Manny Diaz was able to do with the Canes this year.

Diaz took a defense that led Miami to no more than nine wins over the past few seasons and turned them into one of the nation’s best. He also gave way to the “turnover chain” that became one of the most iconic parts of the 2017 campaign.

Miami does still have a good shot at the Playoff. The Canes take the field next week against the No. 3 Clemson Tigers in the ACC Championship Game. A win in the title game would likely place the Canes in the Playoff field.

Diaz is one of the hottest names on the coaching market right now and he’s probably going to leave Mark Richt‘s team for a bigger role elsewhere during the off-season. With an underrated defense and great opportunity in the SEC with the Aggies, Diaz would be a good fit.
