Texas A&M Football: 5 realistic expectations for Jimbo Fisher in year one
5. Top three finish in the SEC West
Texas A&M became accustomed to 8-5 (4-4 SEC) finishes over the past couple years. Since 2015, the Aggies ended each season with that exact record. Under former head coach Kevin Sumlin, this team registered another .500 record in the SEC as the mediocrity in conference play continued.
Any program that has the resources at the level that the Aggies do hopes for better results than a bunch of eight win seasons, no matter how much talent is on the roster. The Aggies definitely had some great opportunities to take a step forward in the SEC West.
Fisher has some experience in winning conference titles, something the Aggies haven’t had a chance at since joining the SEC in 2012. He brought three ACC Championships to Tallahassee over an eight year tenure. FSU also made an appearance in the ACC Championship Game in his first season with the program.
The track record of immediate success that Fisher showed with the Noles bodes well for the Aggies in 2018. Expecting Texas A&M to be in the 2018 SEC Championship Game is a bit extreme, but jumping a few spots in the SEC standings is a reasonable thought.
