Stanford Football: 3 early signees who’ll make an instant impact in 2018
It’s time for Stanford football to focus on the 2017 Alamo Bowl, but the 2018 recruiting class is starting to take shape of the Early Signing Period.
Stanford football nearly came away with a Pac-12 Championship in 2017, but fell short in the title game to star quarterback Sam Darnold and the USC Trojans. As the Pac-12 North Champions, the Cardinal get to face the TCU Horned Frogs (second place finisher in the Big 12) in the Alamo Bowl.
However, the Cardinal are hoping that another big postseason event is a good sign for the future of the program as well. The first ever college football Early Signing Period just concluded and some teams fared better than others. But, the Cardinal prioritized quality over quantity in this class.
Stanford signed 10 players, three are four-star recruits. And, Stanford also got a hard commit from a four-star wide receiver in Mobile Christian School product Andres Fox. Moreover, a good portion of the seven early three-star signees can help bolster the secondary, since three are cornerbacks.
With the 13 players that are either listed as a hard commit or recruits that signed their Letter of Intent, Stanford claims the 52nd best class in the nation. Their class ranks as the eighth best in the Pac-12. The Cardinal does rank above two good programs in the Pac-12 in the Utah Utes and the Arizona Wildcats. There’s still some time for the Cardinal to play catch-up since 2018 National Signing Day is right around the corner.
Head coach David Shaw knows how to fill his roster with the proper talent. Last year, Stanford hit the recruiting trail hard around National Signing Day, as the Cardinal finished with three five-star signees and the second best class in the Pac-12.
Here’s three early signees that will make an instant impact for the Stanford Cardinal in 2018.
