Texas A&M Football: 3 Takeaways from shootout loss to Wake Forest
By Shelbie Warr
2. Quarterback John Wolford was the player of the game.
Senior quarterback John Wolford had the game of his career against Texas A&M. He finished with 400 yards passing with 4 touchdowns. He was 32 of 49 in his final game in Black and Gold. If he wanted to go out with a bang, he sure did that on Friday afternoon.
My biggest takeaway watching Wolford is this, he deserves more credit than he is getting heading into the 2018 draft. Much of the talk centers around Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen. However, Wolford owns one of the best touchdown to interception ratios in college football. He plays with heart, power and poise. I am convinced that he should be talked about quite a bit more in the coming months heading into the draft.
On the opposite side of the field, A&M quarterback Nick Starkel played his heart out and should be all but confirmed as the starter for the Aggies in the coming year. While that is obviously Jimbo Fisher’s decision, he stood toe to toe with senior quarterback John Wolford and didn’t give up until the last snap he could take. Both of these guys will have a lot of success in the future, one headed to the draft and the other headed into another year in college football.
