Even after separating from the program, Kevin Sumlin is being paid handsomely by Texas A&M football.

Just when Texas A&M thought it rid itself of Kevin Sumlin to Arizona, the exact numbers regarding how much the fired head coach will be getting from the Aggies over the next year are released.

If you’re a fan of Texas A&M, you have to be thankful for the time Sumlin gave the Aggies and how close he got them to SEC contention each year. Now Jimbo Fisher is in town to get the Aggies to the next level.

Unfortunately, the Aggies are still shelling out a ton of money to Sumlin, making him the highest-paid coach in any single season ever for 2018.

Sumlin was introduced as Arizona’s head coach on Tuesday afternoon after spending the previous weeks looking for a job. The firing of Rich Rodriguez was unexpected, but it opened the door for the Wildcats to take a shot at Sumlin who was arguably the top coach left on the market at the time.

Arizona will be paying the former Texas A&M head coach $2 million in 2018 while the Aggies’ buyout will cost them $10.4 million. Combine those earnings in 2018 and Sumlin becomes the highest-paid head coach in the history of college football for a single season. That’s just wild.

Texas A&M fans shouldn’t worry too much as it doesn’t affect their program’s hiring process as Fisher is already locked up. It pays to be a wealthy athletic department because not many programs would be able to afford this type of compensation. Also, Sumlin should be sending the Aggies a ‘thank you’ card.
