3. An offensive coordinator with NFL experience will help Lock improve

Drew Lock knew going into the Texas Bowl that he next season would bring a changed offense to Missouri. He was waiting on that coaching hire before he made any official decisions in terms of his NFL future. Now that a hire has been made, Lock is getting what he wished for- a coach with NFL experience that can help him be ready for a transition to the next level.

Derek Dooley has NFL experience with the Miami Dolphins as the tight ends coach and with the Dallas Cowboys as the wide receivers coach. He is quite familiar with NFL offenses and how they work. His pro-style offense will lend itself well to the development of Drew Lock into the quarterback we all know he can be at the next level.

The only issue that stands, that I can see, is that Dooley hasn’t coached quarterbacks before nor has he ever been an offensive coordinator. With a quarterback as capable as Drew Lock, that won’t be an issue. However, it may be an issue in the coming years with younger players. We will just have to wait and see.
