Christian Jones is one of the lesser-known recruits from the Longhorns’ 2018 class. The 6-foot-6, 285 pound offensive tackle is the No. 715 ranked player in the nation with fewer offers than some of the more coveted prospects in the Longhorns’ haul.

Head coach Tom Herman has built a star-studded class already. He has 18 total blue chip recruits either signed or committed (two 5-star players and 16 4-star players). With that much talent he can afford to take a risk and go after a player like Jones who has plenty of upside based on his size alone.

The rest of Jones’ offer list lacks the prestige of the Texas. He’s been offered by schools like Tulsa, UTSA, Iowa State, Houston and Virginia. His two most prominent offers come from west coast schools: Cal and UCLA.

Jones received his offer from Texas on Jan. 26. He was on campus the following weekend for his official visit and committed to the Longhorns on Monday. This one looks to be fairly cut and dry. It’s hard to see Texas losing out on Jones.
