Jacob Copeland’s mother was not happy when her four-star wide receiver son committed to Florida football over Tennessee and Alabama.

It can’t be easy being a parent and looking out for your son’s well-being on National Signing Day. Sure, every football parent has a favorite school which they hope their son will attend but it doesn’t always work out perfectly.

Just take four-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland, for example. He was getting set to announce his college decision on Wednesday afternoon between Tennessee, Alabama and Florida with his mom, to his right, decked out in Crimson Tide and Volunteer gear.

I mean, it was fairly obvious she had her two favorites in mind while Copeland had another idea. He had spent weeks making sure this was the right decision for him and it’s been an emotional time for the top-100 recruit, but he announced he’d be playing for Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators.

What’d his mom do next? She got up and walked out on live TV.

Parents, take notes. This is exactly what you shouldn’t do when your son, or daughter, is making a huge announcement for their future. When they know in their hearts that they want to attend a certain school for the next three or four years, you support them. You may not like it, but you stick with them and show them your support.

What Copeland’s mother did was selfish and she should take a long, hard look in the mirror and realize that she just hurt her son on live television.

Copeland is going to be one heck of a player, ranked the No. 69 player and 12th-best receiver in the class out of Pensacola, Fla., per 247Sports. His mom needs to get on board with this because she has no choice.
