Watch out for Stanford football to really make their mark on the recruiting trail before the conclusion of National Signing Day 2018.

Stanford football has another recruiting class that could be among the best dark horse groups in the nation in 2018. With just 14 commits in the 2018 class for the Cardinal, adding a few more quality recruits is a big priority for the 2018 edition of National Signing Day.

Those 14 commits lands Stanford as the No. 45 class in the nation, and the seventh best in the Pac-12. However, head coach David Shaw and the Cardinal are used to finishing in the middle of the pack in the conference in terms of recruiting class rankings, and then making the best of the talent they do bring in.

The good news for Stanford is that, of their 14 commitments, 11 of them have already signed their Letter of Intent. Four of Stanford’s commits are four-star prospects, and the rest are three-stars. After making an appearance in the Pac-12 Championship Game again in 2017, you’d think that the Cardinal would have some momentum built up to round out the 2018 class.

There’s two clear highly-touted prospects in the class so far, including four-star pro-style quarterback Jack West and four-star wide receiver Michael Wilson. The loss of quarterback Keller Chryst does open up some opportunity behind rising junior starter K.J. Costello.

A big factor likely to help determine the decision of a few targets for Stanford is that Heisman finalist running back Bryce Love returns to school for his senior year. Any running back looking for immediate playing time might be turned away from the Cardinal now.

Here are three storylines to follow for the Stanford Cardinal on National Signing Day 2018.
