Boosting the Texas A&M football program to new height would place Jimbo Fisher among the best coaches in the SEC right now.
The college football world got to witness what Jimbo Fisher can actually do for Texas A&M Football this year, on National Signing Day 2018. Landing multiple four-star recruits in the same day, the Aggies made a jump into the top 25 classes in the nation.
It’s not just the most recent recruiting class that indicates a positive trend for the Aggies entering 2018. When Texas A&M takes to Kyle Field this upcoming season, they’ll have talent on both sides of the ball to push them to contention for a possible SEC West title.
However, before Texas A&M can think about contending in the SEC West, they’ll have to take down some programs they’ve had trouble with since leaving the Big 12 and joining the conference. The Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers and LSU Tigers have consistently controlled the Aggies in division play.

But, the Aggies had Kevin Sumlin at the helm every year since joining the SEC, and Fisher could take them to a different level. Not only is Fisher a great developer of quarterbacks, he knows what it takes to win at the top level of competition. He recently took the Florida State Seminoles to a BCS National Championships and a College Football Playoff appearance in the past five years.
Of those two appearances, Fisher and the Noles brought one title back to Tallahassee. That’s going to bring the expectations up in College Station a notch. Texas A&M fans were getting tired of the mediocrity that Sumlin brought to the program year after year, and hopefully that’s over with. If Fisher can take the Aggies to new heights in his very first season, that proves his worth as a head coach.

There’s a lot of pressure on other SEC West head coaches in 2018. Auburn’s Gus Malzahn and LSU’s Ed Orgeron could find themselves on the hot seat if their programs are not in contention this year. Fisher has a track record of success against SEC teams and he could solidify himself as a top-notch coach with a great year in 2018.
