4. Potential true freshman breakout candidates

Let’s face it, if the eight early enrollees Ohio State has in its 2018 class decided attend just about any other program in the Big Ten, they would be candidates to start right away. That’s not the case in Columbus as the Buckeyes are absolutely loaded.

Looking down the list of early enrollee true freshmen, there are a handful of Army All-Americans and top-250 recruits who could have an immediate impact in the spring game.

Five-star safety Tyreke Johnson is the highest rated of the group, but could he beat out some veteran safeties? The secondary has some holes following departures of Damon Webb and Denzel Ward, so don’t sleep on the nation’s No. 21 overall recruit from Jacksonville, Fla.

Other names to keep an eye on are defensive tackle Tommy Togiai, center Matt Jones, offensive tackle Max Wray and outside linebacker Dallas Gant.

There are plenty of openings on the defense, but which early enrollees could see extended playing time early? We could find out this spring.
