Baylor Football: Charlie Brewer most underrated quarterback in Big 12
An opportunity awaits for some of the more underrated quarterbacks in the Big 12 to take to the spotlight. Does Baylor football’s Charlie Brewer step up?
Baylor football enters the 2018 season with really nowhere to go but up in the Big 12 standings after a dismal result in 2017. Head coach Matt Rhule is heading into his second year with the program in Waco, Texas, with a much better roster than he had a season ago. The Bears return a ton of their production from 2017, so the improvement should be very visible from the start of the upcoming regular season.

Most of the potential for Baylor this season lies with the offense, building behind a ton of young talent. The first name that should catch the eye of fans around the country is rising sophomore quarterback Charlie Brewer. With less than a full season of work under his belt, Brewer does still have a lot to prove in 2018. He’ll have the help of a rising star at wide receiver in Denzel Mims, who is also one of the most underrated at his position in the Big 12.
A solid freshman campaign led Brewer to likely lock up the starting quarterback role for Baylor in 2018. He tossed 11 touchdowns and only four interceptions, all while racking up more than 1,500 passing yards in eight games played.
With all the big time quarterback departures around the Big 12 this year, especially Oklahoma State Cowboys’ Mason Rudolph and Oklahoma Sooners’ Baker Mayfield, there’s a lot of room for new names to emerge at the top of the conference this year. Brewer is a prime candidate to become one of the top three quarterbacks in the Big 12 moving forward.
Will Grier, of the West Virginia Mountaineers, enters the regular season as the clear cut top quarterback in the Big 12. Beyond that, Brewer could easily become the second best the conference has to offer. He just doesn’t get the recognition he deserves due to the lack of wins the Bears managed in 2017.

Watch out for Baylor to progress by at least three or four additional wins in 2018, behind the efforts of a developing Brewer. He could reach the realm of 3,000-3,500 passing yards and 25 touchdowns this year. He’ll be a force to be reckoned with for years to come in Waco.
