Notre Dame Football: 3 reasons Irish should renew series with Iowa
1. Fanbases
Notre Dame and Iowa is home to two of some of the most passionate fanbases in all of college football. Notre Dame is a national brand, every home game is televised by NBC, a popular cable network and is one of the most successful programs in all of college football. The Irish faithful spans from sea to shining sea and unless something drastic happens, it will be that way for years to come.
On the other hand, Iowa isn’t necessarily a national brand, but many college football fans across the country have respect for the Hawkeyes program. Iowa does have a pretty widespread fanbase, which may surprise some.
There are Hawkeye fan clubs in cities such as New York, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles and many other big cities. Over the years, Iowa has also had a reputation of being one of the best traveling fanbases in all of college football. The sight of a 60/40 Notre Dame Stadium with black and gold is a pretty one to imagine.

All in all, this rivalry would be good for all involved. Iowa, who has been knocked around with their “weak” non-conference scheduling would be playing a program who is now close to their caliber in terms of production on the field. For Notre Dame, it’s a chance to revive another great Midwest rivalry that many would love to watch every year. I’m not saying it will happen, but it definitely should somewhere down the road.
