The Cleveland Browns had a host of picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, but they didn’t use them well, highlighted by their first Day 3 pick, wide receiver Antonio Callaway.

On talent alone former Florida wide receiver Antonio Callaway could have been a first round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Instead, he was lucky to get drafted. Callaway, after numerous off the field issues at Florida, failed a drug test at the NFL Combine. Many thought that would be his final strike, but not only will he get another  chance, it came at the top of the fourth round.

The Cleveland Browns selected Callaway with the No. 105 pick of the 2018 NFL Draft. Callaway missed the entire 2017 season after being involved in a credit card fraud scandal, but his onfield product the season before was electric. He’s explosive, quick and one of the best pure-speed runners in the class. If he gets in space, it’s game over. But none of that matters if he can’t stay on the field.

The Browns already have Josh Gordon to worry about. Drafting another trouble wide receiver with a relatively early pick seems like a questionable move at best. Unfortunately for the Browns, it’s not the first reach of this draft class.

Their first round selections of quarterback Baker Mayfield and cornerback Denzel Ward both came off the board higher than most expected. The selection of guard Austin Corbett at the top of the second was also a bit of a reach. Having plenty of picks is not enough to rebuild a roster – drafting the best players is the solution to that problem. Callaway is the latest in a lengthy line of questionable decisions by the Browns organization. Who knows, maybe he can buck the trend.
