2. Connor Wedington has breakout star potential

When you look at the numbers from last season, you don’t see Stanford having one of the best wide receiving corps in the nation. The quarterback play was one reason for the pedestrian numbers, but no one truly stepped up as the No. 1 target.

That could very well change in 2018.

JJ Arcega-Whiteside has No. 1 potential, catching 48 passes for a team-high 781 yards and nine touchdowns last season while Trent Irwin had 43 catches for 461 yards and two touchdowns. Both of those wide outs return as top targets and will be valuable assets for a hopefully healthy KJ Costello.

However, there’s another emerging talent who could challenge for the No. 1 role this fall: Connor Wedington. The sophomore caught 31 passes for 243 yards in 2017, but figures to have an increased role, especially after a strong showing this spring, culminated with a five-reception, 61-yard performance in the scrimmage. He also added a touchdown catch.

Keep an eye on Wedington as a breakout star as he has showcased his versatility by contributing in the run and return games.
