After suffering through the Danny Hope and Darrell Hazell eras, Purdue went out and made a change in late 2016.

The Boilermakers hired former Western Kentucky coach Jeff Brohm. He has quickly become one of the most exciting coaches in the country. His offensive innovation made Purdue a must-watch team in 2017.

That hire also made Purdue legitimately competitive. They were suddenly raised from a bottom feeder to a serious threat in the weak Big Ten West. He did that with one of the least talented power five teams in the country.

That’s what makes Purdue so intriguing in 2018. It’s important to remember that Purdue did what they did in 2016 without a true quarterback. It was also a roster largely devoid of any playmakers or depth. Now, take that team, that nearly beat Wisconsin and Louisville, and that did beat Missouri, Arizona, and Iowa, and give them a very solid recruiting class. That becomes scary very quickly.

So, what does Purdue look like this year? Well, the Boilermakers look like a team that could seriously contend in the Big Ten. No, really, they’re that good already under Brohm.
