Battle for second to Trayveon Williams

It is no question that junior Trayveon Williams will be the starter at running back for the Aggies. In 2016, he became the first true freshman running back in Texas A&M history to rush for over 1,000 yards.

He came in at 733 in 2017, significantly less productive than the year before. However, the presence of Keith Ford was a huge part of that. Now that he has graduated, it’s Williams job to lose. The question now, however, is who sits behind him?

Jimbo Fisher has a love for the two running back set on offense. In the past six years at Florida State, the Seminoles ran 1,831 offensive plays with at least two running backs on the field, third most in the Power 5.

The leading options for the role of second running back include freshman Jacob Kibodi, junior Kendall Bussey and senior Kwame Etwi. After the showings at the Maroon and White game, my gut tells me that Kwame Etwi will be the go to. Not because of experience, but because of speed and power. His 55 yard touchdown was a highlight reel moment of the day.

Next would be Kendall Bussey and then Jacob Kibodi, however that can be shaken up in fall camp. Freshman Deneric Prince and Jashaun Corbin also have a chance to emerge as leaders in the race, as does Vernon Jackson. However, many believe Jackson will make the move to defense once he arrives on campus.
