Georgia football has to replace two of the best three running backs in school history in 2018 and they’ll do it with relative ease.

Nick Chubb and Sony Michel leave Georgia as the No. 2 and No. 3 rushers in school history. Trailing only Herschel Walker on the all time list, the duo of Michel and Chubb made history of their own. From the 2014 to 2017 seasons the pair rushed for more combined yards than any running back pair in college football history.

As impressive as those two were, Georgia won’t miss a beat. Even with the significant losses in the backfield, the Bulldogs are reloading with another slew of top-notch tailbacks. That starts with D’Andre Swift, who ended the SEC Championship game with a memorable home run.

Swift’s 75-yard scamper (below) was one of his three rushing touchdowns in 2018. All told he racked up 618 yards on 81 carries and 153 receiving yards on 17 catches with one receiving touchdown.

And Swift might not be the best running back in his own backfield. The nation’s No. 1 running back in the 2018 class, Zamir White, highlighted a star-studded class. Kirby Smart found tremendous success using a running back by committee approach last season, and it’s reasonable to assume that he’ll give at least two rushers significant run next season.

White, Swift and junior Elijah Holyfield will split the bulk of the touches for Georgia in 2018. Holyfield was the No. 6 running back in the 2016 class. He’s played sparingly thus far and figures to be a complimentary piece yet again going forward.

Part of what made the Bulldogs so successful on the ground was the perfect balance of talent and depth. The talent might be a hair lesser that last year’s squad, but the depth is just as strong. Whether its Swift or White that takes the lead, it’s going to be nearly impossible to bottle in the Georgia rushing attack in 2018.
