Jimbo Fisher has turned Texas A&M football into a recruiting powerhouse, landing six commitments in the first 10 days of June.

The commitment of Kenyon Green to Texas A&M on June 2 marked a step change for Texas A&M football recruiting. His commitment catapulted the Aggies to No. 2 in the national ranks for the 2019 glass and started a recruiting run that hasn’t been rivaled anywhere else in the nation.

It turns out that Green wasn’t an important commitment, he was the tipping point for an entire class and possibly the future of recruiting at Texas A&M. In his wake four additional offensive lineman and a linebacker have made pledges to the Aggies. All told, Fisher has picked up six commitments in the first 10 days of June:

In addition to the No. 2 2019 class, the Aggies have the No. 4 2020 class.  Since joining the SEC in 2012, Texas A&M has two top-10 classes and one top-5 finish (No. 4 in 2014). If Fisher can take these classes to the finish line intact (and add another few prized pieces the Aggies could be looking at back-to-back top-5 finishes.

If that sounds impressive, that’s because it is. Only six programs have had multiple top-5 classes since in the College Football Playoff era. All of them (except LSU) have either won their conference or played in the College Football Playoff. The other five: Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, USC and Florida State.

Next: Who will win the Texas A&M starting QB job?

It takes talent to compete for national championships. Fisher understands that, and he’s well on his way to making sure the Aggies’ cupboard is stocked for years to come. And it’s only June.
