Georgia football received some good news on Saturday as former five-star receiver Demetris Robertson committed to the Bulldogs.
Being a native of Savannah, Ga., it was almost assumed Demetris Robertson would choose Georgia out of high school in 2016. He was the nation’s No. 1 wide receiver, a five-star, and staying close to home to play in the SEC would give him the most national exposure.
However, Robertson decided to forge his own path and commit to the Cal Golden Bears. He broke out as a true freshman for 767 yards and seven touchdowns on 50 receptions, but after an injury-riddled sophomore season, he was forced to rethink his position in the Pac-12 — especially on a team that hadn’t exactly been a contender.
On June 21, he announced his intent to transfer from the program, making him one of the hottest commodities on the market.
That’s when Georgia re-entered the race for the kid they missed out on back in 2016.
A little less than a month later, the former five-star receiver has made his decision. Robertson went public with his commitment video on Saturday afternoon, picking the Bulldogs.
It wasn’t a huge surprise, but it was something Georgia fans had been longing to hear even since he spurned the Bulldogs for the Golden Bears.
Robertson is coming home with the potential to play right away — a decision that has not yet been finalized by the NCAA. He gives Georgia an instant upgrade at the slot receiver position and a guy who could rack up 1,000-plus yards in 2018.
The Bulldogs return Terry Godwin, Riley Ridley and Mecole Hardman, but Robertson is a guy who could soar to the top of the depth chart and become Jake Fromm’s No. 1 target.
Who wouldn’t want a speedy wide out with excellent hands and devastating route-running abilities? Fromm could have a field day with this kid immediately eligible.

Don’t look now, college football, but Georgia just got even scarier. The Bulldogs could be right back in the national title game this season.
