Florida Football: Game-by-game predictions for 2018 season
One more non-conference game appears on the schedule before the Gators dive deeper into conference play at the end of September. Jim McElwain probably thought he’d be coaching this game against the program he was once head coach of before taking the job at Florida, but a tumultuous 2017 season led to his termination from the program.
Florida will take on Colorado State without McElwain and this is another matchup that will play in the Gators’ favor, especially without Nick Stevens at quarterback.
Washington transfer K.J. Carta-Samuels will take over at quarterback and he may do a serviceable job in his first year with the Rams but it’ll be tough to adequately replace Stevens. Expect him to have a 200-yard performance with a touchdown, but he’ll throw a couple of costly interceptions.
As for the run game, Colorado State brings back Izzy Matthews, but the Gators have an advantage here with Jordan Scarlett back after missing the 2017 season.
Colorado State returns just nine total starters, so you can expect this to be a rebuilding year for Mike Bobo.
Final Score: Colorado State 13, Florida 35 (3-0)
