2. Strong second quarter was the difference

As frustrating as the first quarter was from the Gators, the second quarter blew the game open for the Gators. It started with redshirt junior Scarlett taking a hand-off around the left tackle and into the end zone from 30 yards out for the first touchdown of the game. Just over five minutes later, Franks found wide receiver Freddie Swain wide open in the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown to put the Gators up 20-0.

To put the cherry on top of a great quarter, the Gators blocked a punt for a touchdown to put the Gators into what seemed like an insurmountable 27-0 lead.

The defense was dominant, allowing only 18 yards in the quarter and only allowing Colorado State to get a field goal after a long kick return near the end of the first half. Rams had just three rushing yards on 22 attempts in the first half. Despite holding a 2-to-1 possession time advantage in the first half, the Rams were outgained 136 to 94.
