With seven teams from the AP Top 25 losing on Saturday, things are beginning to look a lot more clear as we head into the back half of the 2018 season.

The AP Poll is one week closer to being irrelevant as we prepare for the College Football Playoff Rankings season debut at the end of the month. But for now, we rely on the AP Poll to set the tone for big time matchups and cause mayhem on social media.

Week 6 of the college football season brought some big changes to the AP Poll, as we saw seven teams in the top 25 fall, including three teams inside the top 10. Now, three of those seven losers lost to teams that were also ranked in top 25 but the other four fell upset to teams outside of the AP poll.

With upsets, big time conference clashes, and dominance from the top-ranked teams, Week 6 saw it all. We welcome in a couple new faces into the AP Poll, and we bid farewell to others; here are the winner and losers of the Week 7 AP Top 25 Poll:

Winner: Texas Longhorns (No. 9 to No. 19)

The Texas Longhorns came away with a huge victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in Week 6. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger had a monster game, accounting for five total touchdowns. This win helps Texas in more ways that it appears. This win provides a head-to-head tie breaker over Oklahoma in determining who goes to the Big 12 title game, and gives them a high possibility of making a New Year’s Six bowl game.

The biggest question for the Longhorns, is can they keep this up? We’ve seen Longhorn teams in recent years have big wins, but still end up with five-loss and six-loss seasons. Texas still looks to be a year ahead of schedule, so as they are “back”, they still have a long ways to go before they can be considered one of the best teams in the nation.

Nonetheless, the Texas Longhorns are the biggest winner of Week 6 and have put the rest of the Big 12 on notice.
