4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

By ranking Notre Dame at No. 4, a justification is due first as to why the Clemson Tigers are left out. Clemson absolutely blew out Wake Forest, 63-3. But let us not forget what happened the week prior when starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence was knocked out of the game. Clemson just barely escaped an upset, at home, to Syracuse. While Syracuse is much better than they have been in year’s past, no other team in this top four have had anywhere near the type of win Clemson did against the Orange.

Since coach Brian Kelly made the change at quarterback and gave Ian Book the starting job, Notre Dame has looked nothing short of unstoppable. The Irish now have three top 25 wins, including the most recent road game against the Virginia Tech Hookies.

Notre Dame came into Lane Stadium and took control of the game from the start. If it weren’t for a silly loss to Old Dominion, Virginia Tech would have come into that game undefeated and ranked much higher.

Notre Dame has proven that they deserve to be considered among the very best teams in college football. The best way the Irish can solidify their spot at number four will be to win big against the rest of their opponents. Currently, there are no other ranked teams left on Notre Dame’s schedule. But as we see every week in college football, anything can happen.
