Florida Football: 3 takeaways from Gators’ win vs. Vanderbilt in Week 7
By Shelbie Warr
1. Well Florida, it’s time for a new quarterback
Feleipe Franks is decent enough, I guess. However, if the Gators want to be a serious contender in the SEC, they need a quarterback. They don’t have one this season to replace him, that is for sure, now that Will Grier is over at West Virginia kicking butt in the Big 12.
The Gators have one commitment in Emory Jones, a four star dual threat quarterback which will be good as that has started to be the go-to quarterback type in the SEC if you will. Hopefully Jones can play better than Franks, who matched his entire touchdown total from a season ago in game one of 2017. Yes, he played all of 2016, don’t let that make you feel for him or question that statistic.
At this point, no matter how decent Dan Mullen makes him seem or how much he is bailed out by strong defensive plays and speedy weapons on offense- Feleipe Franks isn’t the guy for the Gators at quarterback. He’s not even close. Maybe it is time to look on the roster and see if you can switch something around, but if not, get on the recruiting trail and make sure you’ve got the guy to carry this team back into national prominence.
