Week 8 of the 2018 college football season was supposed to be a letdown. Then Purdue happened.
Every pundit from The Solid Verbal to my own words down to the Twittersphere had week 8 as a letdown. Of course we were all still going to sit around the couch or bar and watch college football anyway. Since we did, we were in for a surprising treat as week 8 turned out to have some fun games, and somewhat in places we least expected.
While NC State at Clemson was an abject letdown, I had no idea that Purdue hosting Ohio State would turn into a Donnie Brasco style whacking. They’re waiting in the basement for you, Urban Meyer, look out! The Ohio State in the playoff? Forgetaboutit. Oh and Mike Leach upset another ranked opponent in Pullman.
Then there’s the obvious hatred between Jim Harbaugh and Mark Dantonio, the two coaches seemingly can’t stand each other. Down in Baton Rouge, La., Nick Fitzgerald and Joe Burrow battled it out for who hates completions more, and TCU looks like they’ve found their quarterback and a return to offensive production from just offensive offense.
Undefeated teams lost their moniker as Cincinnati dropped a game to Temple proving they’re nothing more than a fugazi, and OSU lost to Purdue while winless Nebraska upset Minnesota. Here are my five takeaways from Week 8 of the 2018 college football season.
