The 2018 season has been a crazy one for Florida football and it’s about to get even wilder with an upset of the Georgia Bulldogs.

Before the season, there were a select few national media members who were high on Dan Mullen’s Florida Gators. Those same members of the media were scrutinized and dubbed ill-informed, but now they look like absolute geniuses.

Eight weeks into the season, the Florida Gators look like one of the best teams in the country, posting a 6-1 record and sneaking into the top 10 at No. 7

The Gators will get another chance to prove themselves worthy of playoff consideration on Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla., as Georgia is next on the docket. This could go a long way in deciding the SEC East standings.

Here’s why the Gators will pull off the shocking upset of Georgia.

5. Gators’ run game will give Georgia fits

The backfield duo of Jordan Scarlett and Lamical Perine is truly something to behold. It may not get enough attention on a national level because they don’t put up video game-like numbers in the way Travis Etienne or AJ Dillon do, but each gets a similar amount of touches and they do the most with them.

In fact, Perine has 69 carries for 376 yards and three touchdowns on the year while Scarlett has 70 rushes for 381 yards and three scores. Two different backs, two eerily similar stat lines.

That backfield duo will give Georgia a tough time on Saturday afternoon as they are just gaining some steam. Add in Dameon Pierce who’s averaging 8.4 yards per touch and the Bulldogs will be searching for answers on the defensive side of the ball.

Georgia allows about 136 yards per game on the ground but that number will be toppled by the Gators’ three-headed monster.

Both Perine and Scarlett are fresh off 100-yard games and Pierce continues to get better.
