Week 9 saw 11 of college football’s top 25 teams fall, with eight of those teams falling victim to unranked teams. Which losses were the worst?

After a week of mostly the favorites winning, Week 9 was completely different. A total of eleven top 25 teams suffered losses. Two of the teams were in the top 10. It was a week to separate the contenders from the pretenders.

With November right around the corner, Week 9 was a chance for teams to solidify their chances heading into the home stretch. Some of those teams were up to the challenge, while others fell flat on their faces. There were three games that stood out, based on the rewards that are now off the table after their respective losses.

Unranked Arizona crushes No. 19 Oregon

It was only a couple of weeks ago where Oregon was being discussed as a possible playoff contender. Those hopes are now completely gone. Arizona cruised to a 44-15 victory over the Ducks in the desert Saturday night.

Like the Washington State game before it, Oregon was slow out of the gate. Their first seven drives ended in five punts, a fumble and an interception. Four out of the five drives ending in a punt were three and outs. By this point, Arizona was off to a 16-0 lead. While the Ducks did cut the Wildcat lead in half with a touchdown and two point conversion, Arizona responded with a subsequent touchdown for themselves.

Arizona poured it on in the second half. Oregon scored a late touchdown, but it was just stat padding at that point. Arizona completely outclassed Oregon from start to finish.

The Wildcats improved to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the Pac-12 South. Oregon has now lost their second straight and three out of the last five. They can forget a playoff chance and have virtually no shot of winning the Pac-12 North now.
