2. Dana Holgorsen has some serious guts

Texas looked like the best team in the Big 12 after it beat Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout, but that was quickly erased thanks to a win by West Virginia over the Longhorns in Austin. That wouldn’t have been possible without the play of Will Grier, a strong run game and Dana Holgorsen flashing some serious guts.

With the game on the line and under three minutes left, his staff called the right plays to get the Mountaineers down the field quickly to tie the game.

Grier hit Gary Jennings on a perfect pass, but it was what happened after the touchdown that truly decided the outcome. Instead of being safe, kicking the extra point and sending the game to overtime, Holgorsen was seen on the sideline mouthing the words, “Let’s win the (expletive) game.”

And the Mountaineers did just that.

Holgorsen could have played it safe and tried to win in overtime, but he knew his best chance to win was in regulation on the road against one of the Big 12’s premier teams. Grier converted the two-point conversion and the Mountaineers pulled off the big win.

Good on you, Holgorsen.
