Florida State football is on a three-game losing streak and must win out to extend their NCAA-best 36-year bowl streak. Can the Noles find a way?

The season-opening loss to what turned out to be a mediocre at best Virginia Tech team was a harbinger of tough sledding for the 2018 Florida State Seminoles. Thanks to a narrow escape against Samford in Week 2 and wins over Northern Illinois, Louisville and Wake Forest the Noles are still in contention for the postseason.

With two weeks remaining in the regular season Florida State sits at 4-6 (2-5 ACC). Their remaining games come against Boston College and Florida, both of which are ranked inside the top 25 and have as many losses between them combined (six) as Florida State has on its own.

Winning one of their remaining games would be a tough ask. Winning two would have to be considered a minor miracle at this point. ESPN FPI gives Florida State at 34.8 percent chance of beating Boston College and a 25.2 percent chance of taking down Florida. Combine those together and you’re looking at single-digit odds of Florida State going bowling.

To their credit, Florida State has been here before. They fell to 3-6 last year before rallying back with three straight victories to clinch their 36th consecutive bowl appearance. Two of those wins came against Louisiana Monroe and Delaware State, a far cry from the ranked ACC and SEC opponents that stand in their way this time.

Willie Taggart’s first season in Tallahassee has been filled with frustration. Fans were ready for a step back as this team built for the future under his vision, but failing to qualify for a bowl was never acknowledge as a remote possibility. Pending two stunning upsets, Florida State will have to start a new bowl streak in 2019.
