3. Holiday Bowl vs. Big Ten (Dec. 31)

No, it’s not the New Year’s Day bowl that Washington was expecting at the beginning of the season, but the Holiday Bowl in San Diego can still bring some excitement with a couple of decent Pac-12 and Big Ten teams that probably fell just short of 2018 goals.

Last season, it was Michigan State and Washington State squaring off as the Spartans ran away with a blowout victory behind Brian Lewerke and LJ Scott’s big games.

This year, we could see the Huskies, which would be the Pac-12’s third-best team, barring a playoff selection. If Washington loses to Washington State and a team from the South wins the conference title game, the Huskies would be that third-best team. They could still be third if the Holiday Bowl selects the runner-up (if the North wins) over the Huskies — which is possible.

The Big Ten agreement for the bowl is five different teams in six years, so the most likely opponent for Washington in this one would be a team like Penn State or Northwestern.
