2. AJ Brown can’t be the entire offense by himself

Ole Miss wide receiver AJ Brown has played his final snaps of collegiate football. The super-star pass catcher became the Rebels’ all-time single-season receptions leader in the loss to Mississippi State, but even his elite talent wasn’t enough to jumpstart an otherwise listless offense.

Brown ends the year with 81 receptions, 1,259 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He’s going to be a first round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. If any level of receiving talent can alter the course of the game, it would have been Brown. Instead, he capped off his career with a five-catch, 102-yard performance with no touchdowns.

Jordan Ta’amu is a capable passer, but this wasn’t the first time both he and the Rebels’ offense has gone silent against a marquee opponent. The same offense that dropped 70 points twice this season was limited to 23 points against Alabama and LSU, the only other ranked teams they played in 2018. If Brown’s playmaking ability couldn’t make a dent in the opposing defenses in any of these games the Ole Miss offense never had a prayer.
