App State football knocked off Louisiana in the inaugural Sun Belt championship game. Here is what we learned from the Mountaineers win.

Entering the first-ever Sun Belt championship game on at the home stadium of East Division champion Appalachian State, the Mountaineers were big favorites against a Louisiana team that lost three more games in the regular season. But games are played on the field for a reason, and it was an entertaining contest in a vibrant campus environment to kick off a new era of Sun Belt football with a bang.

Appalachian State was challenged all day by the Ragin’ Cajuns, as the Mountaineers struggled to put points on the scoreboard against a solid Louisiana defense. But ultimately things worked out for the hosts, as they pulled away for a 30-19 victory for the league crown.

The Mountaineers sealed a landmark title, and they will now prepare for their trip to the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on December 15. Louisiana must wait to see where they will land this postseason after failing to pull out an upset as a 17-point underdog.

Still, fans who tuned in were treated to an exciting conference championship game that went down to the wire. Here are three things we learned about the Mountaineers and the Ragin’ Cajuns from the inaugural Sun Belt championship game in Boone on Saturday.
