5. Ohio State

Ryan Day will benefit from a mature quarterback

With Urban Meyer retiring from the sidelines, and Ryan Day officially taking over as head coach of Ohio State, the Buckeyes will benefit tremendously from having a mature, experienced quarterback leading the offense. Although Ohio State played very well with Day coaching at the beginning of the 2018 season, they did have a Heisman Finalist running the offense. There are no guarantees things would have gone as smooth for Day had there been a less talented player under center.

The Buckeyes will be aggressively pursuing other quarterbacks who will be transferring this off-season, like Justin Fields and Jalen Hurts. And, Ohio State will be at the top of these players’ lists as well. However, if Ryan Day is unable to catch one of these two players, Brandon Wimbush will likely be third in line to take over for Dwayne Haskins.

Wimbush has proven he can win big games on the biggest of stages. He is used to playing in a big time program and in a similar climate. Brandon Wimbush would be a slight step below Justin Fields or Jalen Hurts. Nevertheless, he would be a great consolidation prize.
