Florida Football: 3 reasons Gators should be SEC favorites in 2019
By Shelbie Warr
1. If Dan Mullen can mold Feleipe Franks…
Let’s not pretend that Feleipe Franks is the quarterback of choice for the Gators. Is the kid decent? Sure. Is he what Georgia has found in Jake Fromm or Alabama in Tua the Great? No not at all. Franks is only accurate about half the time, running more hot and cold than the Katy Perry song. He folds under pressure and doesn’t make it through all of his necessary progressions at times.
To be frank, no pun intended, Feleipe Franks isn’t going to turn into a Heisman winner anytime soon. What we have seen though, is him progress and get better as the season went on. He grew and learned to rely more on the plays he can make with his legs than through the air- something that we saw big time in the Peach Bowl against Michigan.
My point here is this. Dan Mullen is known as a pretty decent recruiter. If he can mold the hot and cold quarterback that is Feleipe Franks into a man who can lead his team to a New Years Six victory over one of the best defenses in the nation, just think what he could do with a top rated quarterback coming out of high school.
Simply put, Dan Mullen is the best thing that ever happened to Franks and by extension to Florida in general. This team has every ability to compete for a title in 2019, but they will have to start by besting the likes of Georgia first which will be a task in and of itself. However, if they can finish right behind the Bulldogs with Franks at quarterback, they can do anything.
