4. The Longhorns are inconsistent and faltering

The Texas Longhorns are so proud of themselves for making it to where they are and they deserve to be. However, this isn’t a team that is ready to fight hard against the likes of an SEC team. Let’s start with the offensive issues that have shown themselves throughout the season and then we will move to defense.

First of all, I find this interesting. During preparations for the Sugar Bowl, Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm was asked about the aggressive style that Sam Ehlinger of Texas plays with. His answer? That when playing against the SEC, it probably isn’t a good idea to do what Ehlinger does. He has tried to avoid being aggressive that way and instead throw balls downfield.

Will he be proven right in this year’s Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day? We shall see, but Texas has been up and down all year. Yes, they beat Oklahoma and stood toe to toe with West Virginia. However, the lost to Maryland and Oklahoma State. They nearly lost to Kansas and Tulsa. They just aren’t consistent on the offensive front and when you have to go blow for blow with the likes of the Georgia Bulldogs, that is not a good thing to be struggling with.

On the defensive level, which we will discuss more in the later slides, this Texas front hasn’t exactly been great. They have been bailed out by an aggressive offensive unit time and time again and that may not fly taking on a Bulldog team that just stood up to Alabama.
