Florida Football: 5 fixes Gators must make for the 2019 season
By Shelbie Warr
Overall, Dan Mullen’s first year in Gainesville was exciting and successful. What does Florida football have to fix to win the SEC East in 2019?
In 2017, the Florida Gators struggled their way to a four win season. No one really believed that they’d be able to turn much of anything done in 2018, even with Dan Mullen taking over the program. I’m happy to report that the exact opposite happened as the Gators were able to put together a ten win season, complete with a big win over Michigan in the Peach Bowl.
All that being said though, the Gators still have a handful of things to fix before they can really reach the top of the SEC. Starting with the need to restart a certain streak that prior to 2018 lasted just about 30 years.
5. It’s a must for the Gators to beat Kentucky again
For the first time in three decades, Florida fell to the Kentucky Wildcats on the football field. I can promise you that not a single fan was happy about that loss.
As a result, many weren’t too happy with Dan Mullen when that fateful day in September ended in the opposite of victory. I’m not saying that anyone was really calling for his head yet, it was only Week 2, after all. All of that being said though, I am sure there were quite a few that were questioning if Florida made the right call in taking Mullen from Mississippi State.
The biggest must in 2019 for the Gators has to be beating Kentucky. This is the other team that will be competing against them for that spot atop the East — current champion Georgia notwithstanding. We already know that Georgia is going to be the center of that fight, but if Florida can’t beat Kentucky then they will have quite an issue winning the East.
