Florida Football: 5 reasons to be optimistic about 2019 season
By Shelbie Warr
Florida football had quite the successful season in 2018. Could it get even better in 2019? Here are five reasons for optimism in Gainesville.
If you didn’t already know, the Florida Gators had a shockingly successful season in the first season under Dan Mullen. Not very many people expected the level of turn around that Mullen was able to pull off in a single year, but he did it and it was amazing to watch. From a four-win season to 10 wins and a New Year’s Six berth, this team turned it around in a big way.
Can 2019 be just as good, if not better? I think so, but let’s talk about why.
5. Momentum from a big time bowl win
There are three teams around the SEC East that right now seem like contenders for the title- Kentucky, Georgia and Florida. Two out of the three won their bowl games and have some kind of momentum heading into the 2019 season.
For Kentucky, it was a close one against Penn State. While that is a win, it wasn’t a dominating one in any form or fashion. Georgia was dominated by the Texas Longhorns — not exactly a good look for a team that complained about not making the College Football Playoff.
That leaves us with Florida — the team that absolutely handed Michigan their butts and that is honestly putting it lightly. Everyone was sure that Michigan’s defense would win them this game as Feleipe Franks was obviously not as good as Shea Patterson. Well, the Gators had quite a bit to say about that thought process. They owned the game from start to finish, allowing them to really start building the momentum they need to head into 2019.
