Diwun Black had been committed to Florida since last August but didn’t sign in the early period, which had some fans worried. The coaching staff, however, remained confident that he’d become a Gator, and he officially signed his letter of intent on Wednesday, ending all doubt and speculation.

This was a huge get for the Gators because they will soon need interior linebackers to replace the likes of David Reese and Kylan Johnson who will both be seniors in 2019. When they graduate, the Gators will have a couple of open spots for a guy like Black to swoop in and take.

On the roster, Florida has five inside linebackers and he’s the lone inside backer committed to the 2019 class, which gives him a leg up on the competition.

Sure, he’s going to have his work cut out by not being an early enrollee, but the 6-3, 215-pounder from Kissimmee, Fla., has all the talent and potential to crack that playing rotation.

The former Mississippi State commit (yes, Dan Mullen has recruited him for a while) has great lateral movement and isn’t afraid to come up and hit the ball-carrier, dating back to his days as a safety — he has great ball skills as well. He’s ranked the No. 45 player and third-best inside linebacker in the class, per 247Sports.
