Baylor could use some improvement on the defensive side of the ball, especially in the backfield after losing Verkedric Vaughns following the 2018 season and that’s where Hakeem Vance could come into play.

The incoming freshman safety from Hattiesburg, Miss., is one of the top prospects from the state, but flew slightly under the radar to be ranked No. 21 in Mississippi for the 2019 class. He was listed as the No. 640 overall recruit and 50th-best safety, but didn’t get a ton of recognition despite his impressive skill set.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder may not be an absolute burner, but he has enough speed to catch up to ball-carriers and he takes the right angles. He doesn’t shy from contact and has shown that he’s an athlete with his play as a receiver at the prep level.

The Bears are going to be looking for a safety replacement for Vaughns though JT Woods may fill that void.

Still, don’t sleep on Vance who has all the tools to be a tremendous defender for years to come in Baylor’s defensive scheme.
