Texas A&M Football: Way-too-early 2019 two-deep depth chart
By Shelbie Warr
Defensive Line
Starting Defensive Ends: Tyree Johnson, Michael Clemons
Backups: Jeremiah Martin, DeMarvin Leal, Bobby Brown
Losing Kingsley Keke at this position is hard for the Aggies, but they will get Michael Clemons back, the guy who was planned to be the starting in the 2018 season. He was a junior college transfer who played a bit in 2017, grabbing 19 tackles on the season. Even though he missed an entire season due to injury, any guy who has been nicknamed the Cyclops sounds like a great defensive end to me.
We saw some good things out of Tyree Johnson and Bobby Brown, allowing both to move into that spot if need be. Jeremiah Martin did a lot on special teams, providing some quality depth in 2018. However, it is true freshman DeMarvin Leal that you should really keep an eye on. The true freshman could sneak in and take that second spot at defensive end.
Starting Nose Tackle: Jayden Peevy
Backup: Mohamed Diallo
Both of these guys have shown pretty large amounts of promise, especially now junior Jayden Peevy who blocked two kicks against UAB and registered a 12-yard sack against Mississippi State. Look for him to get more involved in 2018- especially at the nose tackle position. Diallo didn’t show much in the last season, but if he has improved this offseason it is likely he could make a push for the starting spot.
Starting Defensive Tackles: Justin Madubuike, Derick Hunter
Backups: TD Moton, Jayden Peevy
Daylon Mack is headed to the NFL, which leaves a big hole at the defensive tackle position. He was a lot of what this team needed last season, finally stepping up to the plate in his senior year. However, we saw quite a bit to like from Justin Madubuike. Look for him to make a big step up in 2019 and be a leader to true freshman Derick Hunter. Projected starting nose tackle Jayden Peevy could also slide into that spot as could TD Moton.
