Quarterbacks

Starting quarterback: Tim Tebow
Backup: Danny Wuerffel

The best quarterback to play at the University of Florida. The best player to wear the Gator uniform. The best quarterback in college football history. Perhaps the best to play the game of football on the collegiate level. Tim Tebow is a legend’s legend. In 2007, Tebow was the first underclassman to earn the Heisman Trophy by becoming the first player to pass for 20 touchdowns and rush for 20 touchdowns in the same season.

Tebow surpassed Emmitt Smith’s career rushing touchdown record by 21 touchdowns and owns the record for most rushing touchdowns in a game (five against South Carolina in 2007). He wasn’t just a rusher, though, as he ranks second all-time in passing touchdowns and fourth all-time in passing yards.

Additionally, he set the single game passing yard record in his final game in 2009. He was an integral member of the 2006 national championship team and led the Gators to another championship in 2008. Tebow is the face of this all-time Gator team.

Before Tebow dominated college football, Danny Wuerffel created his own legend by leading the Gators to their first-ever national championship. Along the way, Wuerffel won a Heisman Trophy and set records that have since been broken and some that remain. Though his records for most passing yards all-time and most passing yards in a single season have been eclipsed by Chris Leak and Rex Grossman, respectively, Wuerffel still maintains his record for most career passing touchdowns with 114 – 26 more than the second-placed Chris Leak.
