4. Previously injured players looking comfortable
The Orange and Blue game saw the return of several key contributors that were lost to injury last season. Overall, all those players looked sharp.
On the defensive side of the ball, Marco Wilson could be found lining up opposite of C.J. Henderson. Seeing the dynamic Wilson back on the field is good news for a defense that struggled with depth last season, and will allow time for newcomers like Chris Steele more time to develop properly.
Kyle Trask, Malik Davis and Tyrie Cleveland all suited up for the Blue team during the spring game and each flashed at different points during the game. Trask displayed good accuracy and led several scoring drives.
Cleveland posted a couple of receiving touchdowns and showed off his complete skill set making plays down the field and picking up good yardage on screen plays.
Davis was heavily utilized throughout the first half, particularly in the passing game. He hulled in several dump-offs from Trask and sped his way to some decent yardage after each reception. If he can stay healthy, Davis “brings a little something special to that group (running back unit),” said Doering.
Besides Trask who will serve primarily as a backup to Feleipe Franks, Wilson, Cleveland and Davis will each have plenty of opportunities this next season based on their performance this spring.
