Defensive Line

Starting tackles: Adam Shuler, Kyree Campbell
Backups: Tedarrell Slaton, Marlon Dunlap, Elijah Conliffe

Spring did little to change the makeup of this unit. Adam Shuler and Kyree Campbell both return as the established starters following a solid 2018 season and 2019 spring. The Gators need both to stay healthy and continue their reliable play as little depth exists at the tackle position.

Tedarrell Slaton appears set to serve as the primary backup and Marlon Dunlap will return from injury after missing the entire spring.

Starting defensive ends: Jon Greenard, Jabari Zuniga
Backups: Jeremiah Moon, Zachary Carter

Unsurprisingly, Jabari Zuniga practiced and performed in spring as the expected starter at end. Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham spoke highly of Zuniga’s spring work ethic and preparation. Zuniga also gives the Gators flexibility depending on the situation says Grantham: “With him it’s just a matter of continuing to refine his craft, because he can give us rush both inside and outside. It’s about what combination of guys gives us the best rush.”

Speaking of guys who will give the defensive line the best rush, Jon Greenard quietly arrived in Gainesville only to make his presence felt during spring. With his strong spring performance, the Louisville-transfer looks ready to take the SEC by storm and help replace the production lost by the absence of Jachai Polite.

Though battling through an injury that limited his participation in spring, a health Jeremiah Moon gives the Gators another rusher capable of making opposing quarterbacks miserable. Moon has the talent to get the majority of snaps, but will need to make up some ground when he returns to full strength. Either way, Grantham will have plenty of options come the beginning of the 2019 season.
