With Jordan Ta’amu exhausting his eligibility, all eyes were on redshirt freshman Matt Corral this spring. He came in as a highly-touted quarterback recruit and attempted 22 passes in four games as a freshman, completing 16 for 239 yards and two touchdowns.

Corral was efficient and accurate from day one, but would he be ready to take a bulk of the workload now that Ta’amu is gone? Instead of having 22 attempts throughout an entire season, he’d likely surpass that in one game.

If the spring game — or spring, in general — is any indication of what we can expect from Corral moving forward, the Rebels will be in good hands.

In the Grove Bowl, he completed 22-of-37 passes for 240 yards and a touchdowns and looked like the right guy to run Rich Rodriguez’s new offense. The excitement surrounding this kid is real and he looks ready to live up to the hype.

When asked about his progress, Corral said he likes where he is, but he always wants to do more. That’s the exact mindset you want from your starting quarterback.
