Is this a safe choice for the No. 1 player trending up after spring ball? Probably, but it’s true.

Tyler Huntley wasn’t able to have the 2018 season he had hoped for because he suffered an injury toward the end of the year, giving way to redshirt freshman Jason Shelley. The young dual-threat did a solid job in Huntley’s absence, passing for 1,162 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for another 192 yards and three scores, keeping Pac-12 title hopes alive.

There were some who believed Shelley could contend with Huntley this season for the starting job, but after spring ball, those doubters of the senior quarterback have been silenced.

Huntley didn’t show many, if any, signs of rust and even proved it during the spring game as thousands of fans witnessed him go 8-for-9 with 158 yards. He made some big plays and looked comfortable in the pocket.

If he continues this upward trend, he could become the top quarterback in the Pac-12 this season but he definitely made steps in the right direction this spring.
