If you’ve followed Miami football this spring, even loosely, you would have realized that the biggest storyline was the quarterback position.

Not only were the Hurricanes looking to replace Malik Rosier and potentially move on to up-and-comer N’Kosi Perry, but they had brought in Tate Martell, a transfer from Ohio State. He was one of the most highly-regarded players in the country a few years ago and now he’s fighting for first-team reps with Perry.

Perry looked like the best quarterback on the team a year ago and when the Hurricanes went after Martell in the offseason, it seemed like they weren’t quite sold on their returning dual-threat. He did finish fourth on the team in rushing while passing for over 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns, but his accuracy was concerning at just 51 percent.

That, along with Martell’s arrival, has made this spring even more crucial for Perry and he’s shown up, and then some.

Martell is no longer the favorite to win the job after a shaky spring as that distinction goes to Perry who looked great over the past couple of months and capped it off with impressive scrimmages.

If anyone improved their stock the most this spring, it would have to be the talented sophomore quarterback.
